24 photos I occupied, 2010

Les clichés (en noir et blanc) se constituent d’incrustations vidéo (couleur) dans des photographies comme si les unes venaient prolonger les autres, rendant - grâce à leur temporalité-, ces espaces momentanément «habitables».
24 photos follow one another, as the different moments of a day, each one with a singular activity. I took these photos in the south of Spain, near Almeria, where a wide “plastic sea” stretches, plastic sea made of 17000 hectares of growing greenhouses which extraordinary developing is due to the overexploitation of the immigrant workers. Bordering on the outdoors of the cities, marginalized, this population has got the possibility to be integrated and registered on this land only with the hope they have in an occidental way of life. And thanks to this projection they can resist. This is why the question of cinema (according to Godard the cinema is “what shows in large” the History, the stories) and in that case the western iconography make here the video material: desert lands, idea of a border constantly displaced (pioneer), soundtrack for Ennio Morricone, slowed down to the extreme.
The images are made of video inlaid in photographs, as if ones were extending the others, making, thanks to their temporality, these spaces momentary “fit to live in”.
